[Project] "Optical Storage Direct Flexible" energy storage system for the Taikoo Li North District shopping mall in Sanlitun, Beijing (to be put into operation in 2024)

1 Project background

• Venue: Taikoo Li North District, Sanlitun, Chaoyang District, Beijing (Building 15 + Red Hall)

• Building area: approx. 3 000 m² commercial complex

• Pain points: High peak electricity prices, large impact on air conditioning and lighting loads, need for emergency power backup, and neighborhoods require “one microgram” low-carbon demonstration

2 Energy storage scale and access

• Battery capacity: 409 kWh (lithium iron phosphate)

• Power level: ≈ 200 kW (bidirectional converter, expandable to 300 kW)

• Access method: 400 V low-voltage busbar, which together with rooftop photovoltaics and DC charging piles form a “light-storage, direct-soft” microgrid

• Reserved interface: 8×120 kW DC two-way charging pile in the North District underground garage (Phase II access)

4 Operation strategies and benefits

• Valley power charging: 23:00–07:00 (electricity price 0.32 yuan/kWh)

• Peak discharge: 10:00–15:00, 18:00–21:00 (electricity price 1.2–1.4 yuan/kWh)

• Average daily cycles: 1.5 times, annual discharge ≈ 190 000 kWh

• Direct benefits:

– Annual peak shaving and valley filling save electricity bills ≈ 170,000 yuan

– Demand electricity charges dropped by 15% (original peak value 450 kW → 380 kW)

• Added value: 100 kW critical load can support 4 hours during power outage, avoiding business interruption

5 green highlights

• 100+ flexible photovoltaic panels (about 35 kW) on the roof directly supply DC load, with a photovoltaic self-consumption rate of 100%

• Combined with the energy-saving renovation of air conditioners, another 13.4 million kWh will be saved and 12,000 tons of carbon will be reduced throughout the year.

• The project was rated as one of the first batch of outstanding cases of “One Microgram Demonstration Block” in Beijing, becoming a low-carbon benchmark for commercial complexes.
